'negativity kills!'
All Asian kids should come with a warning to their families when born, dont you think? just to scare em if anything...Academic kid: I got 92% on the test mum!
Parent and/or older sibling: what
happened to the other 8%?
Academic kid: *dies of depression*
Kid who cant be bothered to be academic cos if it’s not the highest it’s not
good enough: Mum, I got a D and a C in my A-levels. …And a U *blush*, …but it’s
ok cos I still got in!
Parent and/or older sibling: you got a U? How could
you get a U? What did you get a U in? you FAILED an A-level?
Kid: *dies of
depression*
How come they don’t hear the ‘98%’ part?! Or the ‘I got a C’ part?! Or I got into uni’ part?!
WHAT DO THEY WANT FROM US?! BLOOD?!… (probably money. Ahem…)
Those are general (common) examples I gave, and people get it from their families for all sorts of reasons, at different severities, but *sigh*…is there really any benefit? Is it making anyone happy? If you don’t support us when we try the best we can, compliment us when we do good, why do we bother trying? Why always focus on the bad part? Why go and look for the bad part no matter how miniscule or insignificant it may be to pick on and complain about? Why make a mountain out if a molehill?
Even in the second example I gave, it might look bad, failing an A-level…but if we think about it,-what is the actual point of passing them? To get into uni right? So when your going for a job, people are gonna look at what degree you got not the A-level grades. So why???? WHYYY??? Why do they try to kill us with their negativity? Its not as if you can go back and change it…it’s not even as if you NEED TO! WIHRIUASEFVIENI\SHNYURREWS!!!11122233333
Some families think it’s not a big deal, that it doesn’t have an affect on their kids, that if we’re older we can take it, and they aren’t really trying to kill us with their negativity. HAH!
Ahahahahahaha,
Ahahahahahahahahaha,
Ahahahahahahahahaha.
Ok, I’m done.
Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
No really I’m done.
Hehehe…
Ok, I’ma stop now…. so I was saying? Oh um yeh…they don’t mean to intentionally hurt the kid’s feelings.
But in reality, most kids, WANT their families to be proud of them (is that not obvious?), for their achievements, or trying their best, or generally trying to be a good kid. Some can even fish for compliments, but still get complaints. Which is sad. Really, really sad. :-(
I mean, what is the kid going to think? If they start realising that even when they try their best to please they still get put down, isn’t it going to crush their spirit, their self confidence, their willingness to try their best? Eventually, some may just stop trying. Or even turn to doing whatever they wish, even if they know it displeases their family- after all, they were at a loss trying to please them.
Yea- again, this reminds me of Ummah Films: ‘Culture versus Islam’ (see previous blog post) if we aren’t shown the way, it’s hard to learn.
If you don’t give us the confidence to believe in ourselves, how will we achieve anything?
InshAllah, in generations to come things will change. :-D
PS- hiiiiiiiiiiiiii blog!!! Yes I'm still alive! :-D
PPS- yes i did get a D, C and U at A-level- and i did just about make it into uni. And i wasn't bullied majorly about it. But i did feel like punching some poeple for a short while.
I mean I got IN!!!!. Wasn't that the freakin point anyways???!! Why are you so sad, so you cant brag to people about my grades? Number 1- you didn't even do A-levels, so do them first and come back and ask me to get 3 A's.
Number 2- ..and YOU, you got lower grades than I did and look how successful you are now! I aint resitting..pshh what's the point?! I GOT IN! DID YOU NOT HEAR?!
uhm..when did this turn personal?...hehehe...eheh...
um.. as salamu alaikum...
EDIT: my pps about not being bullied a lot...i take it back. :-/
